Homeschool Preschool letter X flower study is the Xeranthemum. Purple flowers adorn any yard that has this flower. They are bountiful and beautiful. Originating from the Mediterranean these flowers are beautiful. Teaching my homeschool preschooler about flowers has been an endeavor that is paying off. My children are older now, and I love the fact that we have been gardening and teaching flowers since they were young.
Choosing to work with your homeschool preschool child while learning the letters of the alphabet is a fun endeavor they will look forward too. Encourage them as you teach them. Grow with them and learn alongside them. Fond memories of all the science projects, experiments. and one on one time learning has enabled me to be creative in homeschool.
Homeschool Preschool Science Activities
Science activities for preschool do not look neat, pretty, or a lot of learning. They are really more about exploration, trial and error, and patience. Asking them what they see has always been a good route for me. First, lay out the picture of the flower, review how to plant flowers. Go over what makes them grow big and strong. Implement ideas into the curriculum about worms and compost. Both are great to know for science and gardening.
Worm composting bins are fun to make. My kids made one, and they had a great time checking on the worms periodically, feeding them and eventually when it was warm placing them in our garden. The worm composting bin was easy to make. Watch a video that will guide your preschooler to understand how worms help your garden and in turn help your flowers.
Read Aloud Letter X Book
Next, grab your stack of letter of the week books because this week we are on Letter X. Read the story with them. Homeschool preschool comprehension starts at a young age. Since my kids were old enough to talk I have asked them what they heard when I read the story.
Another fun part of the story is to look at the pictures with them and discuss how they relate to the story. Finally, we always ended our read aloud time with a fun snack. The letter X can be made with about anything like long pretzels, apple slices, bananas and more. Be creative and allow them to help.
Flower Picture Study
Picture study of the Xeranthemum is going to be viewed through the preschooler. Don’t rush them, but urge them to see everything in the picture. In addition to this, add in some easy grammar lessons for nouns, adjectives and verbs. Asking them to say purple flowers instead of just flowers is the cornerstone for good writing and grammar.
Learning to expand our vocabulary early sets in the words for like. Add in the vocabulary word from the letter of week you chose and place it on the poster. Keep up with the vocabulary each week and discuss, review and have them look at past weeks. This is helpful as they grow into reading.
Letter Of The Week Handwriting
Finally grab my letter X handwriting sheet and have them practice to do their best. Letter X is an easy one to work on and conquer. After the handwriting sheet, place it on the poster next to the vocabulary word. Remember each day to review before starting the actual lesson.
More is learned in review and we are teaching our children not for a test, but to think. We want them to have outstanding critical thinking skills. Review each lesson daily for only a few minutes and just like with any musical instrument or sport improvement will be seen. Homeschool preschool is a precious time between homeschool mom and homeschool preschooler. Nothing has to e regimented like in school. Let them learn as they go, and enjoy their weekly letter of the week flower identification. At the end a good idea may be to set up a matching game with all of the letter pictures, and letter of the week handwriting sheets. See how many they can match up without help.
