Preschool is such a fun time to introduce homeschool games. This age group loves to play and learn. I’m almost sad that I won’t have anymore preschoolers since my youngest is now in kindergarten. Searching out fun games to play with kids each day is rewarding. For new homeschool moms keep it simple. For veteran homeschool moms who have many children, don’t forget the games with the younger ones.
There are a variety of ways to search out games for kids now. Before Pinterest and Google this was not so easy. I have spent several hours combing through books and teacher guides to put together easy preschool games for subjects. My favorite part of teaching is planning, but in addition to that I love to play along side of my children. Especially when they were young. Today they still remember so much from the simple games and activities of their preschool years.
Homeschool Game Ideas
My second son was a very active little boy, as most little boys are. HIs preschool games were active and to play basketball with socks. I would bring in several pairs of socks. Then, he would practice throwing them in the laundry basket. Through this fun game he learned evens and odds. How to count to 100, how to sing the ABC’s and many others.
Scavenger Hunts are useful for all kinds of learning. Many subjects can be rolled into a scavenger hunt. Choose games that are versatile, and flexible.
Finally, baseball is an adaptable game. Make a baseball diamond on a board with place markers to move around the bases. We use a dry erase board so that clean up is easy.
Homeschool Preschool Game Resources
Number one resource is the imagination. Decide on what needs to be taught. Then, pick a favorite game or activity the preschooler likes to do. Develop a game around that concept.
Pinterest is an excellent choice for ideas. Hours can be lost choosing something on Pinterest. Also, use this resource as a base for a game. Then make the idea work for your homeschool.
Libraries hold a lot of valuable information for homeschool moms. We are there a lot anyway with our kids. Of course, look for ideas that will work for what the preschooler is learning for the week, month or year. Lesson plans can be formed with games around an entire book.
Looking in thrift stores for old teacher books or magazines have been another way that I have found ideas. Lots of younger children resources are tossed out by those who have retired or updated curriculum.
Used curriculum sales sometimes have books that relate to preschool homeschool children games.Finally, facebook groups for preschool moms are a place to get ideas. Bouncing ideas off of others’ in a group is a good way to mastermind a subject of games and how they use them.
Many of the games that I used to play with my kids I found by searching blog sites. But again, this was before Pinterest.
Homeschool Game Organization for Preschoolers
A simple tote can be used to house homeschool preschool games. Choose the top ten that can be organized in ziplock bags for easy use. Then, Putting these games together to be used when planned or unplanned will make for easy access. No thinking and running around at the last minute.
Label them, each bag with the name of the game and pla ce them in the tote. We keep ours in our homeschool room on a low shelf. So, therefore when it is time for a game, all the necessary instructions and pieces are ready.
Setting up our homeschool game box for my older and younger children is my favorite part. I love to plan games they will love. Likewise, when I did have a preschooler we incorporated many memories through game play.
