Valentine’s Day is all about love. Moms love their kids and love to have fun with them. Undeniably Valentine’s Day costs some money for parties, gifts, cards and chocolates. Frugally minded moms find a way to show how much they love their children with a minimal cost. There are so many ways to have fun on Valentine’s Day without cost consuming the whole day.
My kids love to give their pictures they make to me. I monopolize on that idea for this day. We create crafts, pictures and cookies for grandparents. The oldest makes his pictures a little more elaborate than the younger three, but the younger three definitely can make a lot more Valentines. Homemade pictures or artwork are great gifts to give family members.
The three main areas to plan for in a party are the decorations, gifts and the activities. my birthday is on Valentine’s Day each year, so along with birthday celebrations we have a homeschool Valentine’s Day party.
Homeschool Valentine Decorations
Decorations add to a party. They make the party more festive and fun. Baby showers are a lot more fun when the hostess decorates the cake table.
Easy, simple and homemade are good goals to aim for when making or purchasing decorations. The easy homemade artwork hung artistically will work fine for a kids’ Valentine’s Day party. My frugal home suggestion is to save as much from one year to the next. I have a poster that I hang each year for Valentine’s Day. My decorations are not expensive, and I just save like I do the Christmas decorations. My storage box is just a cardboard Amazon box and I labeled it “Valentine decorations”.
Homeschool Valentine Gifts
We don’t really do the traditional Valentine’s Day gifts and valentine’s. Each child makes their own thoughtful card for someone else in the family. Next, we make Valentine’s Day bags from brown paper bags and that is a fun homeschool day activity. After making the bags I give each one of my boys’ a pack of post it notes. They then write something nice on a post it and place it in someone else’s bag. When we open valentines’ in the eventing everyone gets to read something nice about themselves from someone else in the family.
Nice things are good to read and very encouraging. I take this opportunity to teach them kindness.
Homeschool Valentine’s Day Activities
Waking up to a goodie bag, decorations and the hint of fun all day gets my homeschooled kids excited the night before Valentines’ Day. My games are very simple such as a red balloon relay race, or some kind of a love scavenger hunt with big hearts.
As a wrap up I will play a review game of the history of Valentines’ Day or historical events like trivia or jeopardy. Fun, fabulous, and free is the idea when planning a fun frugal home Valentine’s Day Party.
