This time of year is sooo busy! I can hardly keep up. Homeschool activities for Thanksgiving are memory makers for us. Our family loves to go back and relive our holidays. It is very easy to homeschool through the holidays through character building activities.
Preparing lessons, researching and finding field trips to go on keeps me busy when I am not in the hands on part of the day homeschooling. Looking ahead to the future months I don’t see any relief in sight because first comes Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and finally the really cold and busy month of December! As you can tell I’m not a fan of being cold.
First on my importance list is teaching my children happiness with what we have. In America there are so many opportunities that go unnoticed.
Opportunities that not all kids get to partake in daily, or even a lifetime.
Raising children that thank God for the blessings daily, the simple ones like “Thank you for our food” is important. It is the small stuff that will build into a larger appreciation.
Thanksgiving Activities for Homeschool:
1. Pray daily about Thanksgiving. The meal and family for the day.
2. Write on autumn colored strips of construction paper conversation ideas’ for dinner.
3. Make Turkey placemats for each setting. They do not have be hard, laminate large pieces of drawing paper.
4. Trace each child’s hand and ask them what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving.
5. Ask each child to pick our 2 food items at the grocery store to donate to a food pantry or mission. Let them have their own bag and deliver the purchase.
6. There are multiple books at the library to read, grab a few. Read aloud to waste away some hours bonding with them. After reading share some of your childhood memories with them.
7. Let each child take pictures of the fallen leaves or reminders of autumn on a nature hike. Print out these pictures and use them for decoration for the holiday.
8. Set up an art gallery outside and let them paint or draw what they see. Then discuss the artwork. Finally….save it! I’m finding as my children get older the artwork they prepare is great for decorating the house.
9. Sit down with the children during copy work or handwriting time and see if they can come up with a Thanksgiving meal, and grocery list. Helping children be involved in the planning helps them eat better at dinner! They feel ownership.
10. Ask them to make a gratitude list. If they are not old enough see if they can draw it, or write it down for them. Save this paper for 5 years in the Thanksgiving decoration box. When they are older bring it out to see if anything has changed.
The Important Part Of Thanksgiving Activities:
Remember what you do with your children each year. Put all of the memories in an album to admire for year’s to come.
How can we help others’ and what will that look like at Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving there is no presents or singing. Friends and family gather around a table for thanks. Children can be taught to see that this holiday is fun even without gifts! Will you try some of these ideas and reach out to others’?
