I am really excited to be a part of the December Family Book Club. This has been such a fun project and it involved two of my favorite things….kids and books. For our book we had to read “Dumpling Soup”, and create a craft for our table from the book.
For this I let my kids choose what they wanted to do. Here is a little background to the story that relates to our craft. Hope you enjoy, and visit the other blogs for table conversation, and food ideas from the book!
Dumpling soup takes place in Hawaii. It is about a little girl who makes some dumplings, but because they look different she doesn’t think anyone will eat them.
I think we can all relate to that at some point? Everytime I take a dish to a pitch-in my worry is that someone will think it doesn’t look tasty!
Anyway, they play shoe games and celebrate the new year with fireworks, sprinklers, and food. The
kids decided to make placecards designed like shoes since they played a cool shoe store game.
First I drew a shoe on construction paper, then I cut it out.
Next, I folded five different colored pieces of construction paper and traced a shoe on each of them.
He wasn’t crazy about the project but loved his family time! |
After that each of the kids wrote their names on the shoes, colored them, and placed them at their place setting.
Dumpling soup is a first-rate book that our homeschool family loved! Crafts that we include into our books are A-1 with my kids.
Thank you Jodie at growing book by book for this opportunity. Books are a gateway to the imagination, and a great hobby for kids to start. Growing book by book is a wonderful educational resource that incorporates fun ways to get started reading!
