Setting up a frugal mom craft business takes a few steps more than making crafts. The creation of crafts is important, but to start a business it takes planning. The behind the scenes of running a business starts before the first day of sales. This is helpful so that as your business grows you can grow existing plans and not backtrack.
Many years ago when I started my residential cleaning service, I had just finished college. My area of expertise was entrepreneurship and all things that surrounded it. You see, I learned that making money by working for yourself takes planning. Also, when working for yourself, in the beginning you are the only employee you have. From this experience and viewpoint I have decided to share some tips that helped me.
Frugal Mom Business Plan
First, and most importantly do a business plan. How detailed it is depends on what goes into the planning. Creating a frugal mom business plan is working off of a shoestring budget. A good business plan outlines a budget that works for the company as it exists both now and in the future.
Business plans include goals, where business will take place whether at home or in a building. Going from the perspective that it is for a frugal mom operating expenses are low. A home business setting is going to create low overhead. Products and services offered are another aspect of the business plan. Finally, there are many other things to include in the business plan, and definitely leave room for growth.
Niche Down As Much As Possible
Know exactly what you are selling. Start out small first. Frugal mom financing is limited, hence that is why moms moms want to work at home. When I went into business for myself it was to have more control over my schedule and skip the forced 9-5 job.
Frugal mom niche ideas in crafting are instead of selling any kind of candles, sell specific candles or candle holders. Part of niching down is figuring out what you’re good at, and aligning it with something different, unique, and avoids market saturation. Solving a problem for your target audience. Setting up the problem and solution in the business plan is a good idea. Then brainstorm a plan.
Location, Location, Location
Again, a frugal mom business is going to work from home best. At one point, I did purchase an office space. For my business to grow, but I soon found out that I operated my business well within the parameters of a home office.
This was the best idea for our family at the time, and it became a tax deduction for us. My husband was also working at home, and we had two children. There are many reasons to work at home, and that is something to run through in the business plan. Making a list of pros and cons of both scenarios is how I always try to figure something out.
Choose A Business Name
In addition to creating a business plan, working from home or renting an office, figuring out exactly what product to sell, is the perfect business name. One thing to remember is keep it simple. The name should tell the customer exactly what they need to know when they see it. For instance, if you create candles the name should represent candles. If I named a business relating candles, but I make stuffed animals now, then that would confuse people.
Setting up advertising within the name sets a standard for people to know that you’re a candlemaker. Therefore, after you select a business name, go after marketing. Find all of the ways that you are able to market your business for free. Set up a frugal mom mindset of spending no money until you make money. Which brings me to my next point. Set your product pricing fairly. Know what they product is worth, what materials cost, what you want to pay yourself before you go into business. Get everything done that you need to before you open the doors to business!
