This week in homeschool preschool we are working on letter T. First thing that I do each week before I begin our homeschool preschool is to set up the learning board. This ensures me that I stay on track with prepping the books, snacks and activities supplies that I will need to create a fun week for my preschooler. I have my own set of letter of the week books and we use those. Most books for preschool especially sets are at the library. Using the library is a way to save on homeschool books and not have to clear out space for books.
The next item on my list is organizing the games and other activities that I use for preschool homeschool that week. I try to do one writing activity each day along with something else such as snack day. Lining up fun snacks that coincide with the letter is part of the fun. One thing I do keep in mind is to keep all expenses minimal. Spending a lot of money on curriculums is not necessary. Reading to a preschooler gives them many checkmarks on the to do list.
Homeschool Preschool Picture Study
This week we will start out with a picture study. The flower this week is a Tiger Lily. I teach art through pictures study also. So as we look up pictures on the internet that show beautiful tiger lilies we grab a sketch book and pencil. I draw alongside my preschooler. My goal is not perfection, but to notice the colors and definition of the tiger lily. Noticing the beauty of the flower introduces the desire to learn more. Coloring or painting the tiger lily is optional and depends on the preschooler.
Handwriting Letter T
Next, I have my preschooler start their handwriting practice. This coincides with the Tiger Lily picture study. The homeschool preschool handwriting sheet has a Tiger Lily at the top. Point to the flower and ask them the name. Take it a step further and see if they can describe the flower. Finally. Have them trace the letter “t”. Repeat several times the letter “t”, and the sound it makes.
After this I repeat the word a few times to go over the sound and the word Tiger to make the connections.

Tiger Lily Snacks for Letter T
Snacks are fun to add into the theme. Therefore I do my best to make a flower snack for homeschool preschool that looks like the one in the picture. It is not always successful, but I do my best. I have used grape, cheese, pretzels and a stretch of the imagination. Preschoolers are not super picky when it comes to the snack and I am grateful. My sons’ always liked that I made something fun for them and they were able to help.
Working together on a snack gives them a feeling of independence and is great quality time spent with mom.
Over the years’ food has become a great way for us to connect and learn together. Cooking meals for geography and other fun ways to teach subjects is a favorite of mine. My second son is fifteen and we have been creating snacks together since he was a preschooler.
Learning Science With Flowers
Science is the last subject on the list for our flower study. This is easily tied in with growing flowers, gardening, dissecting flowers, how do plants grow and many other topics. Botany is an easy subject to teach and over the years’ they will know more than you. Teach a little bit now to know a lot later. It builds in their minds and branches out to other areas of interest as they grow. Kids’ love flowers. Starting them young on loving the outdoors will grow into them wanting to be outdoors.
Work on a flower experiment or create a fun flower hunt somewhere where these flowers are sold. As you work through the flower hunt ask them questions about the flower. For instance does it like sun or shade? Then find out if this flower likes water or dry ground. Each year revisit different flowers and see what they remember from the previous year.
