Letter W activities for homeschool preschool usually started on Monday and ended on Friday when I taught my preschoolers. I did not go more than one week on each letter. First, because I attached our handwriting sheet to the poster and used it all year. This became one of my favorite activities and a keepsake.
Also, I did preschool at the same time each day. There was no rigorous schedule, but I did have a schedule we followed. Setting up a structure system was very helpful especially when the other two kids were born. My advice to homeschooling moms is to have a whiteboard or something to jot down what you want to do each day and stay with that rhythm. Preschoolers like to know what is coming up next for them.
Homeschool Preschool Science
The flower for this week is a Wisteria. A little bit of information about this flower is helpful in teaching young children how to identify and other facts. This is a woody plant that has beautiful blooms. The flowers can be bluish, purple, pink or white. As the Wisteria vine grows the leafs form a feather shape.
Flower study is botany. As you homeschool preschool find ways to use simple easy lessons to teach for now and the future. Putting together a plan is as easy as portraying the objective through a game or concept they can relate to.
Identify the flower, stem, roots and discuss how the flower grows. Another fun idea is to take a field trip to a nursery to find out more about plants.
Picture Study With Flowers
Painting with flowers. Grab a picture off the internet or in a magazine of Wisteria. Play an I Spy game of what they see. Another way to teach picture study is to have the homeschool preschooler point out objects as you call them out.
Another way that I teach picture study for homeschool preschool is by having them draw the picture they see, and allow them time to color it. Of course it is going to be through a preschoolers’ lens, but it will be fun to see what they draw.
Simple Letter of the Week Handwriting
Handwriting the letter W is easy. No needs to buy something because one of the easiest ways to teach handwriting is with a chalkboard. Several years’ ago I purchased some chalkboards at a Dollar Tree. Those turned out to be the best money I have spent. My preschooler at the time loved writing, erasing, and trying to write the letter he saw over and over.
Another fun way to teach handwriting is by printing off a letter W and have them use bingo dobbers.
Letter Recognition Game
Homeschool preschool games are so much fun. Making games are easy and use whatever you have. Spontaneity is welcome in the younger years. Letter recognition games are easy to make by using an old matching game and taping letters to the cards for memory. Another fun game to play would be go fish, and it would be very easy to make with construction paper or create the letters on Canva and print them out.
Try using hopscotch sometimes also, I found even in cold weather on our back porch this was a fun way to teach them their letters. Nothing needs to be perfect, and it will go down wonderfully in their little hearts.
