Each year I take my kids to the library and sign up for the summer reading program. It is fun for them and there are alot of prizes that can be earned by reading books. On each trip we will check out 15-20 books each time. Most of the time the rewards are little items like candy and erasers. Which is fine because it gives my children something visible for their efforts, or my efforts because I do not have readers yet.
This year as I glanced over the reward sheet it had a few new items for rewards. State Fair tickets, White Castle meals, Indiana Fever tickets (women’s basketball), and Indians tickets (baseball).
These gifts are great! Especially the State Fair tickets because we are huge on going to the fair. With our family size being six it gets a little expensive.
This is one of the ways that we had fun at the fair. My boys love the farm area where they learn all about milking cows, shearing sheep, gardening, and money management. Since we are a family that homeschools we explore all of the farm area and propose ideas.
By using the free tickets for the fair that we earned our family saved $30.00. The money we saved allowed us to have fun on the rides, and gave us a little more freedom with food purchases.
So a few times I reminded the kids how we were able to earn tickets by reading. For me, reading is very important and a love for it can open so many doors.
Here we are enjoying our treats we earned for helping on the farm.
Of course we had to try ALL of these!
Milking a cow was not as easy as it looks.
I wonder if I have two future farmers? You never know!
