Scheduling is a time consuming project. I have been working on mine for at least a month now, and since school has let out (we homeschool) it has changed. But, it should change because summer is a time with more flexibility for us. When putting together a schedule there are a few things to keep in mind:
Tips for Scheduling
1. Time management is essential to mothers’. It helps keep the ship sailing so to speak, and without any kind of plan, the ship may sink. To feel like you have a more productive day start by making a list. Depending on what age your children are is how long your list should be. If you have babies or toddlers limit the list to two or three necessary chores. Don’t stress yourself out, Rome was not built in a day.
2. Schedule larger chores for early in the day. By nap time you may be tired and want to wind down. Have the kids pick up toys while you vacuum. Hand them a dust pan to hold while you sweep. Look at your chore list and see what they can help you with and they will love the “mommy” time!
3. Schedule your days. Mondays’ are my cleaning day. I do this so that the house is cleaned after our busy weekend. Tuesdays’ I work on planning and blogging. This is my office day. Saturday is my outdoor time where I garden and pull weeds. Having a specific day to do your work helps
4. Put time down to play with your children. They are only little once. If they like barbies or action figures take the time to get into their world each day. If you have to stay up 15 min. later at night do so, but give them their time.
5. Set aside quiet time. Read your Bible, pray or journal.
6. Hobbies are fun. Find one that suits you. Sewing is something that I am interested in learning more about this year so I put that in my schedule. Not a lot of time, but enough to make progress on a new hobby.
7. Spend time with your husband. Talk with him about the day’s events. Spending time with your husband to connect does not take hours.
8. Schedule a day to clean out the car, van, or truck. Make sure that vehicles stay clean. If it is done each week, then a 15 minute clean up should be easy.
9. Deep clean your bathroom. Then after the kids are in bed, light candles, set out your favorite lotion and give yourself a spa day. Fill the tub with lots of bubbles. This can be something that you look forward to each day. I like to read in the tub, but then sometimes I fall asleep so I had to stop reading. It was getting a little dangerous! If you are a shower person try taking a shower at night it is also very relaxing. Set this in the schedule for 15-30 minutes.
10. Set up a morning and evening routine. It really helps to be prepared the night before.
To me I have to include something in my day for everyone. My husband, my kids, and a relaxing bath or shower for me.
What is the one most important section of your schedule?

What a great post! My 3 kids are getting older now, so it’s a little easier to get some help with the bigger jobs like cleaning the bathroom which I don’t think anyone likes to do! I love the idea regarding making certain days for certain “chores.” I will definitely be utilizing these!

It is so important to me to have a schedule. I like your idea to schedule larger chores for the beginning of days. It is also important to schedule time for play, rest, and your husband. Great ideas! Thanks!
